OCS Announces Poetic™ Release 10.0

Norwood, MA - April 15, 2005 - Open Channel Solutions (OCS), the leader in entitlement management solutions, today announced the general availability of Poetic 10.0. This new version gives publishers greater flexibility in the way they manage software licensing programs, easy customization and integration of Poetic into their environments, and expanded support for Oracle databases.

“Through research into how Poetic could further improve licensing management and ROI, it became clear that publishers could benefit from tools that support multiple upgrade distribution methods, and that provide more flexibility in how they renew licenses,” said Ed Rose, OCS President and CEO. “Poetic 10.0 provides the functionality publishers and their resellers and customers need. It easily accommodates unique licensing, upgrade and user access policies, while continuing to provide comprehensive, real-time views into licensing program status.”

Key features in Poetic 10.0 include:

  • Enhanced automated fulfillment
Poetic’s automated fulfillment capabilities no longer require orders or coupons. Poetic can now support virtually any type of free or purchase upgrade program with robust features, including:
    • Entitlement-based upgrades, where users become eligible for an upgrade by purchasing an upgrade entitlement
    • Obtaining upgrades via the activation process
    • More flexible mapping for upgrade deliverables – can replace multiple products with a single product or vice versa
    • New scheduling options for running automated fulfillment jobs – can run on a recurring schedule – enabling publishers to more easily notify and secure eligible upgrades
  • Managing maintenance and renewal at the machine/license level
Poetic 10.0 supports the real-life subscription/maintenance scenarios required by publishers. By enabling the publisher to track maintenance quantities independently of license entitlements, Poetic offers more flexibility in the way publishers manage subscription programs. This is also valuable in helping end users and resellers manage partial renewal scenarios where quantities change over time.
    New features include:
    • Providing maintenance expiration information in the license
    • Using renewal entitlements to renew maintenance
    • Providing more flexibility when linking entitlements
  • Simple integration with publisher environment
Poetic’s skin and single sign-on improvements make it easier for publishers to integrate Poetic into their web site. For example, minimal programming is required to change the look-and-feel, alter text, create user-specific views, and enter Poetic on a particular page.
  • Support for Oracle 9i
In addition to Microsoft SQL Server, Poetic 10.0 now also supports Oracle databases, making it easier for more customers to implement.
