Our net zero commitment
We are proud to announce our net zero carbon target date of 2040.
This commitment is being made by OCS Australia, OCS New Zealand, all OCS UK companies, OCS Ireland and Landmark, our flexible workspace provider.
Our commitment is a full scope commitment and includes Scopes 1, 2 and all of scope 3. Scope 1 covers direct emissions from OCS owned or controlled sources. Scope 2 covers emissions from the purchase of electricity, steam, heat, or cooling. Scope 3 includes all other indirect emissions that occur in our value chain.
We recognise that Scope 3 is complex and will require us to influence our supply chain and other partners. But we believe that our commitment should include all of scope 3 as to make progress and achieve a net zero science based target as a society, all factors need to be addressed. At OCS, we take our part in this seriously.
In arriving at our net zero carbon target, we have undertaken deeply thoughtful work on our operational emissions which is grounded in the practical aspects of what we do.
Our net zero commitment is made in line with science-based targets to reduce emissions in line with the Paris agreement goals.
Science-based targets provide resilience against new regulations, drive innovation and demonstrate our sustainability commitments are authentic.
Customer partnerships in Australia
We work closely with our customers to introduce sustainable solutions that reduce their impact on the environment. This extends beyond our own operations to our supply chain.
We are proud to protect Australia's unique environment through our contract handling the biosecurity waste stream at Perth International Airport. We do it because we care.
Sustainability in practice
At OCS, our goal is to ensure OCS is a business which is in harmony with our environment, setting an example for other facilities management services businesses around our region and the world.
In 2020, OCS Australia worked with Toitū Envirocare (formerly Enviro-Mark Solutions) to audit our business with the end goal of becoming a Toitū carbonreduce certified organisation in line with ISO 14064-1. Toitū Envirocare helped OCS Australia accurately measure its greenhouse gas emissions and put in place strategies to help manage and reduce its impacts.
As a result of this work (and with the New Zealand arm of the business already Toitū carbonreduce certified), OCS decided to fast-track its progress by becoming carbon neutral, offsetting our carbon emissions and achieving Toitū carbonzero certification for both our Australian and New Zealand business.
This is not to say that we will take our eye off the ball to reduce greenhouse gasses but we realise there is only so much where we can adopt energy efficiency measures. We’re committed to being the most environmentally sustainable business in our sector by 2030.
