OCS NZ and Au releases Sustainability Report 2018

Every business – large or small – has the opportunity to make a positive difference when it comes to sustainability, says OCS ANZ Managing Director, Gareth Marriott.
Mr Marriott made the comments with the release of the company’s first integrated sustainability review, covering both of its Australian and New Zealand operations.
“Businesses across the globe are working together to make ambitious commitments to take action on climate change and environmental and social issues.
“But even small changes can make a big difference and working in partnership has the ability to effect great change. One of our key strategies is to work with clients and suppliers to leverage their combined skills to create deeper, more far reaching changes,” says Mr Marriott.
OCS is partnering with an increasing number of clients on waste minimisation programmes. Their teams go as far as weighing rubbish for landfill and taking photographs as part of their reporting. The reports go back to clients to see how they’re tracking with their waste-reduction goals.
“It’s become commonplace for many clients to now ask their staff to divide their waste into different streams: landfill, organics, plastics, cans, glass, paper and cardboard.
“Taking that a step further, we have helped develop specialised solutions in waste and environmental minimisation for clients with very specific needs, including Auckland Airport, Marlborough District Council and Perth Airport.
“These organisations are also making positive inroads in their own sustainability journeys by decreasing waste volumes, investing in their people and reducing their environmental footprints.
“It’s these types of partnerships that have the ability to make real differences – inspiring change across industries,” says Mr Marriott.
He says OCS plays a key role in helping its clients find sustainable solutions, with initiatives ranging from waste management, to keeping New Zealand’s waterways safe from hazardous chemicals.
“We’ve made a commitment to be the most environmentally sustainable business in our sector by 2030 and one way we can do this is by providing our clients with innovative solutions to improve their impact on society.”
With over 5,200 people working across Australia and New Zealand at more than 6,000 offices, shops, warehouses, airports and more, OCS is a key player in an industry worth more than $1 billion annually in New Zealand and $4 billion in Australia.
OCS Australia and New Zealand’s commitment to sustainable development and practices are outlined in their 2018 Sustainability Report.
“Our sustainability journey has only just begun, and we are looking to make sustained progress year on year to minimise our environmental footprint, working with others to implement innovative solutions to age-old problems,” says Marriott.
“Our maxim is ‘Here Today, Here Tomorrow’ – so working together with our many partners allows us to ensure we hold this to be true.”
