Social (ESG)

With more than 3,500 colleagues in Aotearoa New Zealand, OCS has a clear role in supporting the communities where we live and work. Our services, including commercial cleaning, facilities management and waste management, connect us directly to the environments we help maintain every day.

Recruit from the widest possible talent pool and create opportunities

We recruit from a broad talent pool and create pathways into work for people who may face barriers to employment. Our recruitment processes are designed to be inclusive, and we work alongside local programmes like Workbridge, NGOs and government initiatives that support people into roles across commercial cleaning, facilities management and support services.

This approach has supported hundreds of people into ongoing employment, contributing to long-term social value within the communities we serve.

Providing access to valuable and sustainable careers

Across our services, including commercial cleaning services, waste management, hard services, building maintenance, facilities management, and business functional roles like finance, HR, operations, legal, IT and marketing, we offer opportunities for professional growth and advancement.

We provide sustainable career paths, training, and development. All colleagues have access to the correct information and proper training and development. Our online training capability (OCS Academy) is available to colleagues who join OCS.

Fostering diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I)

Diversity and inclusion are part of how our teams work every day. We aim to provide fair access to opportunities regardless of background, and support an environment where colleagues feel respected and able to contribute.

A diverse workforce strengthens how we deliver services across different environments, from office cleaning and facilities management to public and commercial sites.

Positive impact and lasting change through community outreach programmes

Our colleagues are involved in the communities they work in, supporting local initiatives, volunteering and contributing to causes that are important to them. This ranges from practical support through our services to fundraising and community partnerships.

These activities reflect a consistent approach across OCS, shaped by local teams and the communities they’re part of.

Supporting pathways through First Foundation

Our partnership with First Foundation supports rangatahi connected to our OCS whānau to access tertiary education. Each year, we provide a four-year scholarship that includes financial support, mentoring and paid work experience.

The programme supports students as they move into further study and employment, with practical experience and ongoing guidance. It also extends to their whānau, helping create more stable pathways into education and work.

This partnership focuses on supporting people into sustainable careers and strengthening the communities where our colleagues live and work.

Standing strong together against modern slavery

We’re committed to identifying and addressing modern slavery risks across our operations and supply chain. This includes working with third-party agents like Fair Supply to assess risk, strengthen due diligence and improve transparency in how we engage suppliers.

A cross-functional Modern Slavery Working Group supports this work across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, alongside ongoing training, supplier assessments and regular review of our practices. Our approach focuses on responsible procurement and maintaining standards that support fair and ethical working conditions.
