Taking care of fundamental facilities services so you can concentrate on your patients
We take on the full range of facilities services for hospitals and healthcare providers. We work with you to develop an integrated solution that provides in depth management reporting, clear and easy channels of communication and value for money across the contract. At Central North West London NHS Foundation Trust we take care of domestic services (cleaning), service user catering, laundry, porter services, security and reception. It’s one of the largest specialist mental health trusts in England, with 45 sites across 7 London boroughs. The complex nature of the trust means that our services need to be reliable, consistent and of a high quality, with structured reporting against key performance indicators (KPIs) and feedback. We focus not only on the delivery of our services, but the outcomes and overall patient experience.

Preventing the spread of infection
We’re experts in delivering meticulous cleaning services that meet the requirements of hospital and healthcare environments. OCS is at the forefront of hospital infection prevention and control, due to our sector expertise, skilled workforce and pioneering approach to specific cleaning technologies and methodologies. That’s why we provide cleaning services for NHS Property Services at around 900 separate locations across England.

Meeting your hospital and healthcare catering requirements
We have vast experience in catering for patients, staff and visitors. Our focus is on patient nutrition, providing great choice for a range of different cultures and specific dietary requirements. We provide appetising menus designed to aid a quicker recovery. We also support staff and visitors, providing cafes and restaurants, and partner with high-street brands to provide convenient onsite retail outlets including WHSmiths, Costa Coffee and M&S ‘Food to go’. This increases productivity with staff being able to stay on site for breaks and provides our clients with a commercial opportunity by increasing revenue.

Hospital and healthcare porter, reception, helpdesk and support services
We can also provide a number of support services for healthcare providers, that are delivered in addition to our catering, cleaning and security services. Our teams are often the first people that your patients and visitors will encounter. Whether it’s a hospital receptionist to greet them as they enter the hospital, a porter that assists them from their transport to the ward, or a security person conducting regular security patrols, our teams are friendly, professional and trained in patient care. They’re usually the initial point of call for directions and general questions too.

Multi-skilled, patient-focused teams
Our hospital receptionists are all trained to greet visitors and check them in, and redirect them to their destination. Our receptionists undergo client specific training and have the knowledge and experience to ensure the patient and visitor experience is as good as it can be. They can also call upon some of the other healthcare services that we provide as and when required. For example, porter services or pointing the way to find a cup of tea in one of our catering outlets.

Hospital reception
Our multi-skilled receptionists may also undertake other duties, such as:
- administrative work
- call handling
- mail services
- fire wardens, or
- key handling for 24-hour receptions.

Porter services
Our porters are responsible for providing a proactive and responsive service that includes assisting patients as well as the urgent, routine, and scheduled distribution of stock and non-stock items, equipment and furniture, pharmaceuticals, specimens and clinical items.
Depending on your healthcare environment, we also make sure that our porters receive training in:
- mental health awareness
- patient care
- first aid, and
- managing conflict and violence awareness.

Additional services
Our multi-skilled staff can also offer:
- security - including patrols, CCTV monitoring, escorting staff and incident investigation
- internal post sorting, delivery and security checking, and
- internal post delivery between buildings and sites.

Sustainable and value-added services for healthcare trusts
At Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust we’re helping the trust with their sustainability projects and patient wellbeing. We sponsor and provide support for the trust’s ‘Grow Your Own’ project which is led and managed by Red Rose Corporate Services (RRCS) where healthcare service users, community members and the OCS team work together to grow organic food.

This allows the trust to introduce locally grown, best quality fresh ingredients for patient meals, and promote sustainable, healthy living for service users and the wider community, as well as encouraging both mental and physical health and wellbeing for service user recovery.
All of the produce grown is provided to the kitchen to be used in patient and staff catering, reducing food miles, costs and waste, and helping the trust to meet its sustainability targets and demonstrate its environmental responsibilities.
